DisneyBand+ Expanding to the Disney Dream Starting November 20, 2023

disney cruise line magic band

I highly recommend assessing beforehand if purchasing a DisneyBand+ is a must for you or not. These bands are definitely not necessary for a Disney cruise; they are only meant to enhance your experience onboard. Something fun and unexpected that we discovered during our cruise onboard the Disney Fantasy was that whenever we clapped during a show or entertainment the DisneyBand+ would light up and change colors. You'll want to make sure it's always charged and ready to go, so you do not miss any of these experiences. Perhaps the most popular designs we saw onboard were the two exclusive DisneyBand+ designs that guests can purchase prior to their cruise.

How to get a DisneyBand+

Your Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort MagicBand+ can be used as a DisneyBand+ during select Disney Cruise Line sailings. Following the preview that is taking place on the Disney Wish, DisneyBand+ will begin to make its way to select sailings aboard other Disney Cruise Line ships. For exclusive and unique designs, guests could look at paying $50 or more. I will be honest, at first I was skeptical if I would like the DisneyBand+. At first glance, it appears that these bands do not have many features and are a rather pricey alternative to the complimentary keycard that is given to all guests once onboard. For a family of four, the cost of purchasing a DisneyBand+ for everyone in the family will add up quickly.

What cruise ships will you be able to use Disney MagicBands on?

Officially, you can have multiple DisneyBands or cards linked to your Disney account, you can continue to use as many as your wrists and pockets can carry. However, getting multiple DisneyBands or cards does not give you multiple entitlements, such as additional park admission. Also, once a DisneyBand+ is linked to a person, it cannot be transferred to another person. Disney Cruise Line has announced the release of the DisneyBand+ wearable technology in Summer 2023 for DCL’s 25th Anniversary. This post covers everything you need to know about this interactive enhancement. When it comes to deciding if a DisneyBand+ is right for you and your travel companions onboard a Disney cruise, I would take into consideration several factors.

Is DisneyBand+ rechargeable?

The menus here are curated by chef Scott Hunnel from Walt Disney World's Victoria & Albert's and chef Arnaud Lallement. The dinner menu is similar to that of Palo on the other Disney ships, with a prix-fixe dinner starting at $50 and an a la carte option. The a la carte menu emphasizes steaks, with American prime cuts, Australian wagyu and Japanese Kobe and Miyazaki beef you can pair with one of five sauces. If you ask, you can also get a sauce flight to try all of the options with your steak. Dinner at the restaurant can be done as an a la carte meal where you pay for each item or a set cost prix-fixe menu for $50.

From what we can tell, these are MagicBands by another name and will debut first as a preview on Disney Wish this summer and later make their way on additional ships and sailings. This wearable DisneyBand+ can be used when getting on the ship, unlocking your cabin door, charging purchases, tapping to get your photos synced to your account by the ship photographers and more. Once DisneyBand+ has debuted on the Disney Wish, you can order a DisneyBand+ by visiting My Reservations between 11 and 45 days of your sail date, if your reservation is paid in full. If you would like to customize your DisneyBand+ with your name and an available color before your sailing, you must do so at least 11 days before your voyage, after reserving your stateroom. When you customize your DisneyBand+, the printed name will appear on the inside of the band.

Unofficially, you cannot have an unlimited number of linked bands and also a working My Disney Experience account. I once had over 100 bands, room keys, and tickets attached to my account, and it got so bogged down that trying to do anything would cause the system to time out or crash. I had to have them manually removed from my account (deactivating them wasn’t good enough). However, shipping of DisneyBand+ is only available to US residents with a valid US address. Shipping is available to valid US addresses (including US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico) only; shipping is not available to PO Boxes, APO, FPO, DPO, United States ports, or international addresses. If you would like to customize and edit the colors a DisneyBand+ lights up, this can be done through the Disney World app.

Tips and tricks to DisneyBand+

On some of the ships, you’ll also need your Key to the World card inserted in the slot to operate the lights in your stateroom. While MagicBands have been around for a while, the DisneyBand+ (the Disney Cruise Line version of the Magicband) is relatively new. It’s currently available on sailings on the Disney Magic, the Disney Wish, the Disney Dream, and the Disney Fantasy. If you’ve been to the Disney parks in the United States, you may already be familiar with the concept of the MagicBand.

Parks & Destinations

The restaurant is themed after the Disney animated movie "The Princess and the Frog," with a menu that highlights Creole and Cajun cooking. While enjoying your dinner, you'll also be entertained by a live jazz band playing songs from the movie and other instrumental melodies. The dining room is also open for breakfast and lunch for table service meals in a beautiful atmosphere. The breakfast menu is the standard fare, though do look out for the pastry plate that is walked around by a server and try one of the sweet cinnamon rolls. Located just off the Grand Hall, 1923 also offers a waiter-served breakfast and lunch every sailing day. Menus for both can be seen on the Disney Cruise Line app or by asking a crew member at the restaurant.

Hands-free fun: Disney Cruise Line introducing wearable DisneyBand+ this summer

The art deco-style restaurant is themed after "The Little Mermaid," with a mural of Ariel and King Triton, plus a bronze statue of Ariel just outside the restaurant. Breakfast is fairly basic with traditional morning options, but it's always nice to be served rather than fight others at the buffet line. Lunch is a three-course meal where the menu changes daily, so be sure to check the cruise line app for the most up-to-date menus once you board the ship. The fine dining option for rotational dining on Disney Fantasy is Royal Court. For breakfast, try one of the made-to-order omelets or Mickey-shaped waffles, all served by a team of helpful waiters and waitresses. Then, for lunch, menus feature soups, sandwiches, full entrees and desserts over three courses.

For Guests outside the United States, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, DisneyBand+ will be available for purchase at select onboard merchandise locations (subject to availability). United States residents can visit Bands & More to select and purchase their bands. When you customize your DisneyBand+, you’ll be asked to provide a valid US shipping address.

Be sure to ask for a seat near a window because the views are usually incredible. For the first time, the MagicBands that have been popular fixtures at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort for the last ten years are heading to Disney Cruises, and they’ll be known as DisneyBand+. Until now, guests aboard Disney cruise ships have used Disney’s “Key to the World” card to open the door to their cabins. DisneyBand+ is a huge upgrade from the plastic card, that is often worn around the neck on a clunky lanyard. DisneyBand+ is expected to begin appearing on select Disney cruises as early as this summer.

The MagicBand+ you already use at Disney World or Disneyland will work on the ship, too. And conversely, if you want some of the cruise-specific looks, then your DisneyBand+ will work in the parks. This is great news, given that the cost of the bands does add up when you start buying for the whole family.

Breakfast and lunch are both open seating, so you don't have to wait for a certain time or your assigned dinner table to be open to enjoy a meal. Our Disney cruise food guide has all you need to know about dining options across the cruise line's fleet, including where to find them and whether they cost extra or are included in your fare. We also answer some of the most popular questions about dining and food on Disney Cruise Line.

The exceptions are alcoholic drinks, canned sodas from bars, bottled water and smoothies, which are purchased individually and charged to your folio. Outside on the pool deck of Disney Magic, Duck-In Diner dishes out lunch and snacks to hungry cruisers. The menu here is a fun mix of American favorites like burgers and dogs, plus Middle Eastern-inspired shawarma wrapped in a warm pita. I love the shawarma because you can see it rotating on a vertical spit right behind the counter and load up your sandwich with your favorite toppings. Cabanas is Disney's buffet on its older ships, with 10 food stations in a beach-themed space. For breakfast, you can get everything from eggs and hash browns to Mickey-shaped waffles and fruit.

A Royal hostess and pastry chef tell stories, dance and sing with the group before welcoming in a few Disney princesses. Each child will receive an assortment of gifts as a keepsake after the event. While the classic chocolate souffle is available, the carrot cake with lemon cream cheese frosting is an exquisite end to a meal. Brunch starts with a glass of prosecco or a mimosa, then your choice of antipasti plates. I suggest taking a few people with you to brunch so you can try a few of the dishes on the menu, though one not to miss is the chicken Parmesan that's served with risotto.
